Yvette by Sabina Motasem Bride

One of my weddings that I have been working on this week is in the style of Art Deco. The theme was inspired by the hotel where my lovely couple became engaged. Burgh Island Hotel is without doubt one of the most luxurious retreats to stay.

It has been completely restored in 2006 to its glorious sophisticated and elegant form. Dinner here is black tie! Decadent, glamourous and super stylish. Just how you should feel when you wear your wedding dress.

I could not believe it when Sabina Ali, the head designer from Sabina Motasem Bride in London sent me her super new collection to look at which fits perfectly with this era.

There are six brand new vintage inspired, elegant wedding dresses alongside two bestsellers – perfect for the style conscious bride and the photo shoot was shot at the gorgeous Eltham Palace.

Sabina found inspiration for the new collection from the style and glamour of iconic performers at the Folies Bergeres in 1900s - 1930s Paris.  The slinky, understated dresses complement the opulent and decadent style that you associate with perfectly and styles brides tend to wear at Eltham Palace for their weddings.

Stephen and Virginia Courtauld, society millionaires who used influential designers of the period to create Eltham Palace as a high status home consisting of a series of elegant rooms, reminiscent of Hollywood-style glamour. The use of geometry and simplicity combined with simple shapes in an understated luxurious fashion, mirrors the style of Sabina Motasem Bride dresses, making Eltham Palace the perfect backdrop for the new collection and a sensational venue to plan a wedding.

Sabina Motasem wedding dresses are understated, great value, simple and elegant. Brides can select alternative details like different necklines, sleeves, colours and accessories.

The Yvette dress, a strapless knee length number with full knee length skirt and can be worn with a 50’s style petticoat, transforming its silhouette from an understated 40’s shape to a dramatic 50’s dress. This dress can be accessorised with matching shrug, beaded belt and French corded lace bodice.

Real Weddings – Nisha & Seb

Wedding Planner, Coordinator, Lichfield, Birmingham, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Leicester, Staffordshire, The MidlandsBack in May I had received an email asking me to help with the wedding decor for a wedding being held in Walcote Hall in early July. The supplier that was supposed to be booked had somehow gone awry. I have to admit it is not generally something we do without booking an On The Day Coordination but the lovely bride, Nisha really needed our help.

The wedding was only two months away and not only was the decor not decided but also the same supplier was supposed to have organised the wedding flowers too. I had been thinking of offering such a service which included hire of vases, mirrors, tea lights  etc as well as decor set up so this was the perfect opportunity. I had been stashing various lovely items away just for such an occasion.

NIsha wanted  simple table decor that was stylish and chic. The colour of the wedding was a beautiful bright orange, Nisha had arranged a chill out tent outside with a moroccan theme and for inside where the wedding reception took place she want it to look bright and colourful and for it flow in from the outside. First of all we needed to organise the flowers.

Nisha came for a meeting and met at the lovely Tiaras and Flowers. Anne Brown the very talented florist that The Wedding Genie work with often was a delight. Nisha bought along pictures of the flowers she envisaged for her bouquet and we got to work.

Nisha’s favourite flowers were Calla Lilies and Anne suggested a gorgeous orange colour lily. The bridesmaids were to have bright orange gerberas in hand tied bouquets to compliment Nisha’s bridal flowers.

Just look at how gorgeous they looked and Nisha is just a vision! It really helped too that the wedding day was beautifully sunny and warm. All the images are courtesy of Crucial Image.

The bridesmaids looked stunning standing together. A real colour feast for the eyes.

The grooms mens flowers were chosen to compliment Nisha. Anne managed to find roses that had just the right shades of orange and red in the men.  I just love the Cala Lily that Seb wore.

I love this group shot.

Nisha had already hired Morocan hurricane lamps for the guest tables and then wanted lots of fresh petals scattered on the tables to lift the room. She also wanted me to set the tables with the stationery, menus and favours etc. For the top table we decided that we would use low round glass bowls filled with rose petals that matched the button holes, coloured water to match the theme and floating candles to give a romantic glow in the evening. We arranged the roses in between the glass bowls for the top table and then used the real petals for the tables. To finish off I managed to get a perfect colour organza to match the dresses and flowers for the top table swagging and bows.

They were different colours and really made the room look bright and pretty.

For the table plan, Sebs mum made the lovely cards with the tables on them and we hung them from the gold twigs in a simple vase. They looked really effective.

Real Weddings – Anna and Mark

Nearly two weeks ago The Wedding Genie had the pleasure to coordinate this beautiful country barn wedding in West Sussex. Anna and Mark worked so hard on the details of the day, the decor was just fantastic. From the handmade hearts that were hung on the wall of the barn to the fabulous flowers and fabulously sophisticated white backlit trendy bar. Anna wanted a “White Company” look and feel, she definitely achieved it. The full blog will be posted in a few weeks but we have a sneak preview from the extremely talented and award winning documentary photographer Julie Kim. Julie was a joy to be with on the day, calm laid back and totally unobtrusive.

You can see from just these few pictures what a fabulous eye Julie has for capturing the essence of they day. When we post the full blog we will ask Julie for her thoughts on what makes her favourite photographs. Until then here is a taster, enjoy!

I love this one!

Wow what a stunning couple and that dress!

I had a great day helping everything run to time and making sure all the details were just as Anna planned they would be. When the rest of the pictures are ready I will write up more about the day to give inspiration to any brides that are planning a barn wedding with an ultra sophisticated look for their special day.

If you want to ask me how to achieve this or book me to help coordinate your special day. Give me a call for a chat and to check our availability.

Until next time, happy planning.

Fabulous Guest Books

September 23rd, 2009 No Comments

Today we take a look at guest books. They are such a traditional part of the wedding, full of the well wishes, memories and feelings that your guests experienced whilst they shared your special day. It may take a bit of organising to get everyone to write down their thoughts but well worth it. If you don’t have someone like me to help on the day, the Best Man would be an ideal candidate for this job. Try and make it fun for everyone too. One way is to use Instant Forever. Your guests can wander around taking photo’s then slide them into the album  and write their thoughts and wishes beside them. We used this at Mark & Zoe’s wedding and their guests loved it. I will let you into a secret, I used this at my own wedding too. Guests can be really imaginative when you give them a helping hand.

Here are few alternatives you can think about to inspire you.

Most photographers do a pre-wedding shot. This would be ideal to use.

Quite the in thing at the moment is hiring a wedding messages video type package. This allows your guests to interact with a touch screen, take shots of themselves and add their comments. The Bride and Groom receive a photo book and a DVD as a keepsake. Whilst you are having your photographs taken this will also entertain your guests.

I guarantee reading your guest book will be such an emotional experience you will really want to savour it .When you get chance after the wedding, put your feet up, charge a couple of glasses with chilled wine and prepare to relive your day through your guests eyes.

Maybe you have a great idea for a guest book too, let us know we are always thrilled to hear from our readers.
