Wedding Planner, Coordinator, Lichfield, Birmingham, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Leicester, Staffordshire, The MidlandsBack in May I had received an email asking me to help with the wedding decor for a wedding being held in Walcote Hall in early July. The supplier that was supposed to be booked had somehow gone awry. I have to admit it is not generally something we do without booking an On The Day Coordination but the lovely bride, Nisha really needed our help.

The wedding was only two months away and not only was the decor not decided but also the same supplier was supposed to have organised the wedding flowers too. I had been thinking of offering such a service which included hire of vases, mirrors, tea lights  etc as well as decor set up so this was the perfect opportunity. I had been stashing various lovely items away just for such an occasion.

NIsha wanted  simple table decor that was stylish and chic. The colour of the wedding was a beautiful bright orange, Nisha had arranged a chill out tent outside with a moroccan theme and for inside where the wedding reception took place she want it to look bright and colourful and for it flow in from the outside. First of all we needed to organise the flowers.

Nisha came for a meeting and met at the lovely Tiaras and Flowers. Anne Brown the very talented florist that The Wedding Genie work with often was a delight. Nisha bought along pictures of the flowers she envisaged for her bouquet and we got to work.

Nisha’s favourite flowers were Calla Lilies and Anne suggested a gorgeous orange colour lily. The bridesmaids were to have bright orange gerberas in hand tied bouquets to compliment Nisha’s bridal flowers.

Just look at how gorgeous they looked and Nisha is just a vision! It really helped too that the wedding day was beautifully sunny and warm. All the images are courtesy of Crucial Image.

The grooms mens flowers were chosen to compliment Nisha. Anne managed to find roses that had just the right shades of orange and red in the men.  I just love the Cala Lily that Seb wore.

Nisha had already hired Morocan hurricane lamps for the guest tables and then wanted lots of fresh petals scattered on the tables to lift the room. She also wanted me to set the tables with the stationery, menus and favours etc. For the top table we decided that we would use low round glass bowls filled with rose petals that matched the button holes, coloured water to match the theme and floating candles to give a romantic glow in the evening. We arranged the roses in between the glass bowls for the top table and then used the real petals for the tables. To finish off I managed to get a perfect colour organza to match the dresses and flowers for the top table swagging and bows.

They were different colours and really made the room look bright and pretty.

For the table plan, Sebs mum made the lovely cards with the tables on them and we hung them from the gold twigs in a simple vase. They looked really effective.

Wedding Details to rouse your senses

Wedding Planner, Coordinator, Lichfield, Staffordshire, Birmingham, Derbyshire, Leicester,I do love it when everything is set up at a wedding and I take the Bride and Groom into the wedding breakfast room before anyone else has had chance to see it. Their reaction is so worth all the hardwork and planning. Apart from the table decor we have planned and worked our theme around, I like to use as many candles as possible if the venue allows it. They create such a warm and romantic atmosphere and generally cost very little.

If you can incorporate scented candles to match your theme then this is such an added bonus. Check out some of the ideas below to bring your wedding breakfast venue alive with gentle scents to rouse your senses. These are lovely for a vintage themed wedding, they are available from Not On The High Street.

Don’t use too many, the room should not be overpowered by scent. Just enough to evoke a lovely aroma that suits your chosen theme. Keep to the same scents too. Place them near entrances and in the wedding breakfast venue and at the drinks reception. Keep them away from food so that they don’t overwhelm anyone.

You are better to pay a little more for a good quality make. The more you pay the more the candle lasts and burns evenly. That way it is not wasted when it burns down through the middle and leaves all the wax around the edges unused.

What about these from Folksy, The Lime Garden

Next time I will post a little DIY on how to make gorgeous lace votives. In the meantime if you have great ideas for using candles then please share them with me. I would be delighted to post them on the blog. Don’t forget about handing candles in votives in trees so that when your guests arrive the mood is set for the evening celebrations. Use candles to highlight a path outside to for venue, they look fabulous in large hurricane lamps.

Until next time, happy planning.

Wedding Inspired DIY

Wedding Planner, Coordinator, Lichfield, Staffordshire, Birmingham, Derby, Nottingham, LeicestershireToday I thought I might post a little inspiration for those who are really getting down and DIY! I am working with lovely brides at the moment who are really thinking about the details on their wedding day. Putting a little thought and time into doing something that bit different will really show your guests you care. I have been having a look around at the goodies you can buy and make and hope you feel as inspired as I did.

First of all lets think about innovative place name cards, or use these as seating cards for an alternative to a table plan. I love to have something different and this idea with Lavender from the lovely Martha Stewart is simple and for summer weddings makes a great impact. They smell lovely too. Apart from little bunches of lavender which you can trim from your garden or buy a few little plants from garden centres. You need two strips of paper, one side printed with your guests name and the other with the table number. Arrange them on a table and your guests pick their bunch up and take it to their table. Heavenly and so easy to do!

How about this idea too for a summer beach style wedding.

You’ll need a 1-inch-deep tray, a sheet of 1/4-inch foam board cut to fit into bottom of the tray,(or you can use some oasis)and some sand. Lay the foam board in the tray, and cover with sand. Drizzle sand unevenly, sifting a bit more here and there to form dunes. Print your seating assignments onto colored paper, and cut them into strips; glue strips to the shafts of the umbrellas. Poke the umbrellas through the sand into the foam board at an angle so guests can easily find their names. Read more at Marthastewartweddings.com: Parasol Seating Cards

I really do love Martha Stewart she really is an inspiration.

How about decor now? What about bringing your venue to life with these lovely paper banners. One of my brides used these at a barn wedding last year and they looked just heavenly strung against the beams. You can buy them from here , here or here is how to make them.

If you want to see and read more about this wedding just click here. If you want to send me your inspired decor ideas I would love to see them. I will make this a regular feature now to find you affordable but beautiful little details.

Until next time, happy planning.
